The Arteries of Development

For a housing developer or commercial main contractor, the infrastructure package represents the highest risk profile of any project. If the roads are not built to S38 adoptable standards, or the sewers fail the S104 inspection, the developer remains liable for maintenance, a costly legacy issue.

Tilsley Groundworks operates as a specialist civil engineering contractor. We understand the complex legal and technical frameworks required by local authorities (Staffordshire, Derbyshire) and water undertakers (Severn Trent, Anglian Water). From the deep excavation of main trunk sewers to the final wearing course of an estate road, we build infrastructure designed to pass inspection the first time.

Wet & Dry Infrastructure Services

Adoptable Sewer Systems

We are experts in the installation of foul and storm water infrastructure destined for adoption by the water authority. Our teams are experienced in deep drainage excavation (up to 5m), utilising trench boxes and shoring systems to ensure safety.

Key Capabilities:

Construction of pre-cast concrete and brick manholes.

Installation of concrete, clay, and plastic pipe networks (150mm to 1200mm diameter).

Lateral connections and rising mains.

Road Construction & Surfacing

We construct the "spine" of your development. Working to Section 38 (Estate Roads) and Section 278 (Highways Works) agreements, we deliver the complete highways package. This begins with the formation of the sub-base using certified aggregates, followed by kerb laying, ducting for street lighting, and the final tarmac surfacing (base, binder, and surface course).

Key Capabilities:

Footpath and cycleway construction.

Traffic management for public highway works.

Bellmouth entrances and junction improvements.

Attenuation & SUDS

Modern planning permission invariably requires robust Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). We install complex flow-control infrastructure designed to manage storm surges and prevent downstream flooding.

Key Capabilities:

Attenuation Tanks: Installation of large-volume AquaCell / Storm Crate systems (often under car parks or public open spaces).

Hydro-Brakes: Precision installation of flow control valves in manholes.

Balancing Ponds: Excavation and lining of swales and retention basins.

Managing the Flow: Large Scale Attenuation

As climate change impacts rainfall intensity, the capacity of your drainage infrastructure is critical. We regularly install attenuation systems capable of holding hundreds of thousands of liters of water.

These installations require precise engineering. The tank must be wrapped in specialised geomembranes to be watertight (or permeable, depending on design), and the backfill must be compacted carefully to prevent the plastic structure from crushing. Our engineering team ensures these hidden assets are installed to manufacturer specifications, guaranteeing the structural integrity of the road or car park above them.

Working to Authority Standards

Services

We act as the bridge between the developer and the adopting authority. Our site managers and engineers are familiar with the specific inspection regimes of the major regional bodies. We ensure that every pipe run is air-tested and mandrel-pulled, and every road layer is plate-tested for compaction, providing the evidence pack you need for a smooth handover.

We align with:
- Severn Trent Water / Anglian Water
- Highways England
- Local Councils (Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire)
- NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act)

Euro Car Parts: Commercial Site Clearance & Access Optimization

project

Challenge

Euro Car Parts required an urgent expansion of their on-site parking and logistical capacity. However, a massive, heavy-duty acoustic fence constructed with deep-rooted Steel RSJs restricted the usable footprint and blocked potential traffic routes. The challenge was to dismantle this heavy structure and re-engineer the boundaries without disrupting the live, high-traffic operations of the distribution hub.

Deploying our directly employed lifting operatives and fully owned Volvo excavator fleet, Tilsley Groundworks executed a phased, controlled demolition of the acoustic barrier. Following the safe extraction of the structural steelwork, our civil engineering team re-profiled the perimeter, adjusting and installing new heavy-duty concrete kerbs to establish a highly efficient, multi-directional traffic access point.

Solution

The site was handed back to the client with a significantly expanded parking footprint and a newly formed, durable access route. 100% of the extracted steel and concrete waste was segregated for recycling, and the project was completed with zero operational downtime for the Euro Car Parts branch.
